The government takes measures against illegal fishing as Thailand is determined to remain one of the world's leading seafood exporters
The Thailand Department of Fisheries (DoF) has developed a new app to control the fishing vessels, operating under Thai flag, in order to comply with EU regulations on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The app was created over several months and it uses data from the Royal Thai Navy (RTN), the Royal Thai Police (RTP), the Thailand Marine Department and several other government agencies. It will give the authorities detailed information about a vessel's status, its captain, crew and fishing equipment.
Fishing Info was developed after the EU threatened to ban fish and seafood imports from Thailand because the country's government failed to properly monitor and control the fishing operations.
