The Brazilian Association of Citrus Exporters (CitrusBR) has increased its orange juice production estimates for the 2015-16 season by nearly 10 percent from its May projections, however fresh fruit production remains the same at 278.9 million boxes.

The difference comes from a dramatic decrease in domestic orange consumption, which increased the industry's supply of raw materials by 13 percent. This should have given orange juice production an even larger boost; however, poor weather conditions have decreased the fruit's quality.

It now takes 16.5 percent more boxes of fresh oranges to produces one ton of juice than it did last season.
