Surprisingly, a few states in India allow the slaughter of cows. Therefore, cattle from around the country has to endure the long and sometimes cruel journey there. In an effort to reduce the number of animal cruelty incidents, the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has made changes to its rules regarding the transportation of animals.

The amendments to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules will take effect in 2016, and include items like permanent, size-specific partitions between the animals. All vehicles transporting animals will also need to have a government-issued license and are prohibited from carrying any other goods.

This will prevent drivers from cramming in more animals than the law allows and using unsuitable vehicles.
